Lacrimosa, from the Requiem Mass in D minor, K. 626 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, was composed in Vienna in 1791 during the final year of the composer’s life. Left unfinished at his death on December 5th of the same year, the Requiem remains one of the most profound and timeless masterpieces in classical music.
“Lacrimosa dies illa” (“That day of tears and mourning”), this movement reveals the deepest human emotions and confronts one of mankind’s most universal and haunting fears: Death.
