Description
These are two traditional Gaelic songs about seals. The first one tells the story of a selkie (a human turned into a seal) and how it came to live in the sea. These types of stories are common in the Gaelic folk-lore and song traditions. Amhran airson na ròin agus na chlann rìgh fo gheasan.
Tha an dàrna port a' lèirigeadh na ròin, n'ealachan, na geòidh, an maighdeann-mhara, an muime, agus an naoinean aice ann an Caolas Od Odrum. The second song, "Ann an Caolas Od Odrum," describes the straits of a place called 'The Straits of Od Odrum.'. The chorus of this song is made up entirely of vocables.
Julie Fowlis, a Gaelic singer from North Uist, sings these songs, and they appear on her newest album "Gach Sgeul." All the rights belong to her, so please check out her website and CD. http://www.juliefowlis.com/
