"送别" - Farewell (Chinese May Fourth Song)

Description

This is a poem written by Li Shutong in 1915. Though not directly about May Fourth, the poem and it's author are closely associated with the movement, as Li Shutong was an influential leader in the movement.

The May Fourth Movement was a Chinese anti-imperialist, cultural, and political movement which grew out of student protests in Beijing on May 4, 1919. Students gathered in front of Tiananmen to protest the Chinese government's weak response to the Treaty of Versailles decision to allow Japan to retain territories in Shandong that had been captured from Germany after the Siege of Qingdao in 1914. This was also in opposition to the Twenty-One Demands, a list of insane demands made against China by Japan, effectively a move to make China a Japanese protectorate. (a map of the intended Japanese sphere of influence over China is used in the video).
